TWD: Chipster Topped Brownies

Great news! This is going to be a really short post! That's because (1) I made these brownies at the beginning of May and can't remember a thing about them other than the fact that 3/4 of the pan was raw; and (2) I spent 17 hours this weekend in a minivan with my three small children, and therefore can't form any coherent thoughts that don't involve holding it for just a little bit longer or not being there yet.

It is really difficult for me to write anything short because I've been trained in a profession that is renowned for its verbosity. I make a living writing things that begin with "Comes now the Counterclaim Defendant, by and through its undersigned counsel of record, and respectfully submits its Brief In Support of Its Motion To Strike the Counterclaim Plantiff's Affidavit in Support of Motion for Partial Summary Judgment" and go downhill from there. But I've recently joined Twitter, which is great for interfacing with other food bloggers, and that is helping re-train me to make my points in 140 characters or less. My grammar and spelling have gone to hell in the process, but I can make succinct points in a way that I never could before. And this reprogramming comes in very handy on nights like tonight, when deep fatigue has set in, because I can tweet my post.

This is why 30 Day Shred not working even tho been at it for 92 days:

Always eager to de-pan. D/n wait til room temp like told. Looks like I might get lucky:

Nope, d/n get lucky.

Used Pyrex pan, @ezrapoundcake says next time use metal pan, will solve raw brownie woes. Will do that, thx Rebecca.

Served outside edges 2 friends @ KY Derby party. Think they liked but coulda been bourbon talking. Brownie part better than cookie part IMO.

Beth at Supplicious chose Chipster Topped Brownies - thanks Beth!

I thought the brownie part was better than the cookie part too, but they worked really well together! It's sad about the coming out of the pan destruction, but at least you have a good half that you could cut off and pretend nothing happened ;)

First, I used a metal pan and still had raw brownie issues.

Second, I can completely relate to the 30 day Shred woes. I have been doing this workout everyday for the past 2 months as well. While I am a tad more toned I haven't really lost any weight. I blame Dorie!

O no, I can't believe a bit of the brownie layer fell out. These must have been super gooey and decadent brownies. I didn't make them because I'm trying to cut down a bit on desserts, but obviously it's not exactly going as planned when I keep baking. Since joing TWD, I've literally gained 5 pounds and actually feel glad that it's not more. At least you got to enjoy the edges!

I was hoping you'd do a post of Tweets! Hilarious!! I would have loved the edges or the middle (just bring me a spoon) There-- Used all 140.

One short, but hilarious post!!! FYI: mine were underbaked in the center, but I only chose the "outers". Weird, but the cookie part center was "throw it out" gooey. Plus I used a metal pan - this baking stuff. I don't think anyone knows the answers. Hopefully your kids enjoyed them with some ice cream! Live and learn!

I didn't even have edges to salvage!!!

Your brownies ("the brownies") appear to have (1)utilized the proper ingredients albeit (2) relegated some of them to a less fully advantageous condition. We are required to state under ABA Model Rule 7.1a, however, that prior results do not guarantee a similar outcome ... next time! Welcome home!

I must have missed something in the recipe that allowed you to lift this out of the pan? I lined the bottom of my pan with parchment, but now I get the feeling I should have left edges to lift with. *Shrug*.

They look wonderful! I wasn't sure how impressed I was with this recipe until they sat overnight. Very tasty!

The outsides of the brownies still look really yummy to me! I'm sorry that they didn't work out on the whole, though. Congratulations on surviving your 17 hour car trip!

Okay, we'll forgive you for the short post, and not letting us have our daily intraveinous shot of "Cathy's verbosity"... but! Only if you send a couple of those our way! From here, nothing looks raw... just very chewy, tender and creamy!

Oh! Yeah! Darn... it's been a while huh? Well, I guess we'll just have to torture you then.

Hahaha I think we should tweet all of our blog posts from here on out!!! Hope nxt wk bttr 4 u! Rlx after long wknd w/ kiddies!

Hee! Oh, my gosh, I love your posts. :)

Hindy said...

At least you got the crunchy cookie part.

Anne said...

I used a metal pan but it was an insulated one. Maybe that's why mine didn't work, haha. Yours look good though and I'm glad you made it through the minivan and kiddos this weekend!

Well at least there were some edges to eat. Does the 30-day shred come with some kind of warning like "Void if member of TWD" or "Void if you would even consider making a dessert with 3.5 sticks of butter"?

Anonymous said...

That's a nice thing about brownies. Even if part of the pan is overcooked or undercooked, it's still possible to salvage a few good ones.

La Bella Cooks said...

I would be the weirdo eating the raw part!

Lady Baker said...

Glad you (seem to have) survived the car journey!!

Sorry the pan bottomed out on you..I had baking issues too!

As for the Twittering, more power to you. It's still beyond me, Facebook is about all I can keep up with these days!

Talk to you later! (oops, did you understand that? It means "TTYL" in that 'other' language you speak)
:)L

Sara said...

Ugh, I was so sad when mine started turning into goo. This was good but a bit disappointing.

Jules Someone said...

Oh no! So sorry that it didn't work. At least you could save the edges!

Banjo said...

I used a pyrex too, maybe that explains my Goo! he he... well done regardless. ;)

Katherine Roberts Aucoin said...

Looks like a lot of you used differet types and pan and the brownies flopped for a lot of people. Looks like a bad brownie recipe. Hope you recover from 17 hours of minivan time.

Love the tweets. Congratulations on making it home after a trip like that. I know it is difficult to regain brain strength after that. :)

dharmagirl said...

my profession too results in some long, rambly sentences with extra fancy punctuation...twitter has been a challenge for me too, but an awesome one. love your play with style here. too bad about the raw innards...i made mine in pyrex and they were okay...you never know what strange alchemy takes place in the kitchen, yes?

Di said...

Sorry they didn't quite turn out, Cathy. I loved the short post, and thanks to almost a week of Twitter, I could actually understand it. =) I have a really hard time fitting my thoughts into 140 characters or less. I can't even seem to break myself of the habit ingrained from my junior high typing class of always following a period with two spaces. I have to go back and take the extra ones out when I run out of room. =)

Anonymous said...

Are we there yet? How much longer? :P

140 characters is hard for me and I'm not verbose.

too bad a lot of it was raw. That's what scared me about this recipe.

Leslie said...

Great post! I laughed out loud, as usual. And mine were deceptively done, too. Tested done and everything. Then they started oozing like something out of a horror movie. I think God's trying to help me not add additional poundage to my rear. Thanks, God!

Flourchild said...

I had a friend who called the outside of the brownies "The Bones." SHe would always cut around the entire edges and throw them in the trash or to whomever would eat it!
I did not care to much for this one but Im glad I made them. I thought the cookie topping would be over the top good, but..it did not stand out to me.

ohh us lawyers! we really know how to take 100 words to say something that should only take 10!

Comes now is easily my least favorite legal phrase. it doesn't even make sense to me!

Engineer Baker said...

Haha - love the tweeting post. Given my experience with lawyers, I agree; it's difficult to get to the point once you've been to law school :)

Jamie said...

Well I hope you survived that car ride!!! Your brownies look great!

Deb in Hawaii said...

After 17 hours in the mini van, you deserve several brownies! The edges look delicious! ;-)

I really must try your recipe, the brownies I did before ... did not turn out so well-- I can't wait to give them a try... really. this looks fantastic.

Anonymous said...

Yours turned out beautiful! I'm following you on Twitter. Your comments crack me up!

Megan said...

You are quite the twitter addict, aren't you? I'm trying to stay away b/c it sux up all my time.

Kayte said...

Tweeting your post was a very fun idea. I have to say, the photo of the whole thing that looks like it lost it's lunch is hysterical...not for you, but for the rest of us. It gives us hope that we can laugh at ourselves, too, when things like this happen. The ones cut up on the plate look really wonderful. Twitter vs Verbosity each week...I'm voting for the verbosity...always such fun over here.

Twitter scares me but I will get there some day...

Exchange overhead in my car this weekend (only 7 hours of driving):
7yr old: When are we going to be there?
4 yr old: We'll get there when we get there.

We have trained him well.

I'm not a tweeter (is that right?) but what a fun tweeting post!

The brownies look delicious! Maybe the brownie poo could have been baked again as a mudpie? =)

Pamela said...

I love that you tweeted your post! I used a Pyrex pan, too but didn't have the under-baked issue. It's a mystery! Hope your mind is healed after that long weekend in the car with the kids!

NKP said...

You are so funny! Sometimes they just don't work out. At least you got some yummy edges!

Unknown said...

Haha funny post - I'm a lawyer too so I know exactly what you mean about wordiness. Sorry the brownies didn't work out for you. Mine had issues too - cookie batter sank into brownie batter. Oh well, perhaps better luck next week!

17 hours in a van with little people? You are my hero!

chocolatechic said...

I baked these suckers for 90 minutes and still had goo.

TourGuideJenn said...

Very funny post, as always. I used a ceramic dish and had a similar, underbaked result.

Not familiar with the 30 day shred, but I've been logging my food in "Lose It" on my iPod touch for nearly 2 months now, mostly keeping to my calorie allowance to loose 2 pounds a week. I'm not sure I've lost 2 pounds in as many months. I think it's all a scam (or these brownies!)

Cakelaw said...

17 days in a mini van with your kids - you have done well to get this far! I love the abbreviations - must borrow "d/n". I am sure your tasters really like the brownies - the oodles of chocolate made it taste soooooooooooo good. I agree that the brownie part was better than the cookie.

The Food Librarian said...

Looks fab! I ate mine while on the treadmill...wonder why I'm not losing any weight...

That was impressively short, Cathy! I'm totally amazed. I start my clerkship on Monday...I'm uber nervous. My firm had me read "The Curmudgeon's Guide to Practicing Law." Essentially, the book chastizes you before you even get to the firm. Plus, it's written as if a curmudgeon is yelling at YOU. Yep, the book talks to you. It made me want to go hide in my linen closet. At one point, the curmudgeon said, if you can say it in one paragraph, do it; judges don't want to read 3-7 page briefs. Um, yeah, I'm pretty verbose myself. This should be interesting. Anyway, enough ranting on my part; it's the nerves talking. Despite my verbosity, I can sum up your chipster brownies in a couple of words: frickin awesome (raw can be yummy).

TeaLady said...

I understand the problem completely. Now that I am retired I can stop being a Grammar Nazi, etc. (But of course my family will suffer!!!)

The last pic looks like your chipsters came out just fine.
